Knox County Women
The women in Knox County have been making their place in history since the first settlers arrived. Mary Allen West was the first and only woman to be elected Knox County Superintendent of Schools, serving from 1874-1882. To honor Women's History Month, we have compiled a list of women's firsts in Knox County.

Knox County Inventions Knox County Inventions
The Ferris Wheel and the Brown Corn-Planter are just two inventions by Knox County entrepreneurs. The museum collection includes six original patent models invented during the 1800s. The Tire Shrinking Tool (left) was patented in 1860.
